It starts with a lorry load.
Bare, mill-finish aluminium sections arrive at Shashank Coats, our powder coating unit.
Unloaded, bundle by bundle.
The bundles come off the lorry and each section is hung on the coating line.
Cleaned and chemically treated.
A row of tanks cleans off oil and dirt, rinses, etches the surface and adds a conversion coat, so the powder grips the metal.
Colour goes on as a powder.
The spray gun gives the dry powder an electric charge. The grounded aluminium pulls it on evenly, right into the corners.
Baked until the colour sets.
In the hot-air oven, at around 180-200 °C, the powder melts, flows out and hardens into a tough, even finish.

Finishes
Most sections come in these. Mill finish is plain uncoated aluminium, for jobs painted or clad on site.

Lengths
12 ft is the standard length. Shorter cuts are kept for track and door sections, and for repair work.
